Quality resistance bands can last hundreds of workouts with proper care. Here's how to get the most life out of yours.
Storage
Store bands away from direct sunlight and heat sources. UV light degrades latex and rubber over time, causing brittleness and eventual snapping. A storage bag (like our nylon resistance band bag) protects bands from light exposure and tangling.
Cleaning
Wipe bands with a damp cloth after use, especially if you sweat heavily. For fabric bands, hand wash with mild detergent and air dry. Never machine wash or tumble dry — the heat and agitation damage the elastic fibers.
Inspection
Check your bands before each workout for small tears, cracks, or thin spots. A tiny nick can become a full tear under tension. If you see any damage, retire the band — a snapping band can cause injury.
Talc Powder for Latex Bands
Latex bands can become sticky over time. A light dusting of talcum powder prevents sticking and makes them easier to handle. This is especially helpful for loop bands that rub against each other during storage.
Avoid Sharp Objects
Bands that rub against rough surfaces (concrete walls, jagged door frames, shoe edges) will wear through quickly. Use a door anchor or wall mount to protect the band at contact points. Our steel door anchor and wall mount accessories are designed for this purpose.
